Testimonial:
Steve Sweet
Dip PI (UKPIN)
"I have completed this course from UKPIN and would highly recommend it for anyone wishing to prepare for a career as a Private Investigator. The UKPIN course is far superior to all the distance learning courses I have researched.
The best thing I have ever done was to study with the UKPIN. Support is ongoing throughout your training and career.
At this present time, my wife is undertaking the UKPIN course and, after studying with them, I am confident that she will be a great PI and join me working together in our agency"

FAQ
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q. Is there an alternative
to a Private Investigation training course?
A.
Realistically, the only other way to gain sufficient experience
and training as a private investigator is to work for an
investigation agency. Unfortunately, nearly all of them are
unwilling to take on inexperienced people. Those who do tend to
use them for their mundane duties and are very reluctant to pass
on their experience for fear of creating local opposition in the
future.
Fortunately, this is no longer a problem because the UKPIN
training course will give you all the experience that you need
to become trained and established as a Private Investigator.
Q. Can anybody become a Private
Investigator?
A.
There is no restriction on who can be a Professional Private Investigator and
your race, gender, nationality, background, age, disability or work experience is
not relevant. We will teach you all you need to know.
Q. What about women
becoming Private Investigators?
A.
Women are equally capable of becoming Professional Private
Investigators In fact, women have a positive advantage over men in numerous
investigative circumstances because they do not normally
immediately arouse suspicion and are rarely suspected of being
an investigator.
The UKPIN has many very successful female private
investigators in the UKPIN and we would like to see many more
join us.
Q. What about people from
ethnic minority backgrounds becoming Private Investigators?
A.
All people are equally capable of becoming Professional Private
Investigators, irrespective of whatever their ethnic origins may
be.
Most Western countries are now widely ethnically diverse,
particularly so the United Kingdom, with many different
communities within them. The traditional stereo-typical English
white middle aged male investigator finds it very difficult to
operate in these communities and the need for people who can is
desperately lacking.
The UKPIN actively encourages ethnic
diversity in the profession to bring the experience, knowledge
and operational capabilities that are widely needed.
Q. Do I need to have a
police or law enforcement background?
A.
This is not a problem. Anyone can become a Private Investigator
and no previous experience is necessary. In fact, ex-police
officers often find it harder to make the transition into a
private investigation career due to the narrow and restricted
area of the law they operated in. Experience amongst members of
the UKPIN has shown that ordinary people with a general
experience in life make the most efficient Private
Investigators. More than half the members of the UKPIN are not
from a police background and come from all walks of life.
Q. Do I need a license to
be a Private Investigator?
A.
You do not need a licence to operate in the United Kingdom, at
present. However, internationally the requirements vastly differ
between countries.
See Licensing Page.
Q. What is the difference
between a Private Investigator and a Private Detective?
A.
In Practical terms there is no great difference at all. However,
the word "Detective" is more traditionally associated with a
person who investigates crimes and criminal matters with an
intention of bringing a guilty person to justice. They are
usually employed by government law enforcement agencies.
A Private Investigator can be involved in all manner of general
and specialist investigations across the whole domestic,
personal, business, legal and commercial investigative industry.
Of course, the private investigator may also be involved in
criminal investigations as well in the course of his work. Think
of a Private Detective as a "Crime Specialist" and a Private
Investigator as an "Investigative General Practitioner."
Q. How old do I have to be?
A.
We require you to be at least 17 years old. Provided you are
physically capable of carrying out the general duties that are
required of a private investigator there is no upper age limit
and we have active members of the UKPIN who are in their 70's.
Q. How much money can I
make as a Private Investigator?
A.
Once you have established your agency and provided you put in
the time and effort into developing your business, £60,000 per
year is entirely achievable. Many private investigators earn
significantly more than this and there are now many national and
multi-national agencies with £1M+ turnovers. Also, once trained,
there are many opportunities for paid employment with very good
rates of pay, if you would prefer to go this route.
If is often possible to be earning up to a £100 per hour just
sitting in your car on a surveillance job.
The services of Private Investigators are in great demand and
profits are their for all who wish to work hard, develop their
agencies and take them.
Q. How much money do I need
to have to start an Investigation Agency?
A.
No major capital is required to start an agency. As a
Professional Private Investigator the commodity you are selling
is yourself and your expertise, all you need to do this is a
base to work from, and a telephone. Your home is an ideal place
to start and need incur you in no further costs than you are
already paying, apart from, possibly, an increase in your
telephone bill. You will need a vehicle; anything will do, as
long as it is not conspicuous. Apart from that, a camera, access
to the internet, a few
letter headings, some business cards and you have yourself an
Investigation Agency.
Q. Can I work from home?
A.
Working from home is perfectly acceptable, as the majority of
Private Investigators do. If you prefer, once you have been
established for a while, you may like to take a small office to
operate from but that is entirely up to you. If you are not
comfortable with your home address or telephone number being
used for your agency, as a low cost alternative, you can always
use a business accommodation agency or virtual office facility
in your local area. Almost all towns have them these days and
they are normally very cost effective.
Q. Why do I need to take a
course to become a Private Investigator?
A.
Without suitable training you will have no idea what private
investigators actually do and how they do it successfully. You
must also know the law; what you can and cannot do. Without this
knowledge you could find yourself in trouble very quickly. By
taking the UKPIN investigation course you will be able to begin
your new career safe in the knowledge that you are a competent
and able private investigator.
Q. Why should I take
UKPIN Private Investigation Course?
A.
Becoming a private investigator is a step towards securing a
profession with great future prospects. A profession that is
going to provide you with an exciting, satisfying and rewarding
career. By taking the UKPIN course you will be secure in the
knowledge that you are learning from experienced professional
investigators who will teach you proven practical methods that

its industry and has some of the most experienced and respected

really want to learn private investigation by a publishing house
that markets 50 different courses with no real industry backup
or long term support?
Q Will the UKPIN Course
help me start my Agency and get business?
Not only, will you be learning a superior professional course
but also be taking your first steps into the profession by
becoming a member of the UKPIN. This will give a great start to
your new career that could otherwise take you years to achieve
on your own. You will have instant contact to over 600 other
working professional private investigators and be able to
sub-contract and exchange work with them. It will also provide
you with a fountain of knowledge that will be impossible to
obtain elsewhere.
Q. I live outside of the
United Kingdom. Is the course suitable for me?
A.
Yes. Apart from your local laws and regulations, the course is
based on solid universal methods and principles of investigation
that are relevant and necessary to anyone who wishes to become a
professional Private Investigator.
Q. Is the course easy to
understand and learn?
A.
You will not be given great chunks of information to learn in
one go, because each module is broken down into small manageable
sections for you to easily manage and understand. We are
confident that once you begin the course you will find it so
interesting and absorbing that you will be eagerly wanting to
move onto the next part.
Q. How long does it take to
do the course?
A.
This is entirely up to you and the commitment, effort and time
you are prepared to put into studying. Many students take an
average of about 3 months to complete the course,
with some choosing to do it vocationally over a longer period.
However, it is possible to do in as little a month if you can
